WRMXC Charity Event - 30th November Stamford Bridge

Would this be the day that Dan gets to finally ride his new bike?

.......... YES!!

On 29th November we travelled to Stamford Bridge near York for a Charity event in aid on The Menengitis Trust.

Having travelled down on saturday, work started on getting the track ready for Sunday morning. The track is quite a flat type and was in excellent condition considering the weather and time of year. After everything was sorted, the oil drum was lit, and the rest of the evening was spent around the fire with a few beer. Thank god for the fire, it was freezing!!

Sunday morning saw everything set up, and with signing on done, the days racing could get under way. The bike ran spot on, which saw Dan maintain a really consistant 4th place, and fourth overall, which meant his first major placing trophy, the first of many I hope.

WRMXC Winter Series Round 2 - 01/02/09 Stamford Bridge

After a disappointing first round, where Danny didn't score any points due to the bike not running it was onto Round 2, which saw a return to Stamford Bridge. We arrived at Stamford Bridge on the Friday to help make some changes to the track, including extending it.

Sunday morning came, and everything was ready to go, bike checked and out for practice, so far, so good!

Race 1 saw Danny come home a respectable 9th, and as conditions got rougher with deep ruts forming Danny struggled slightly, but still managed a 10th in bot of his last two races. Overall result on the day - 10th. AFter the event it was established that his rear shock absorber wasn't working

WRMXC Winter Series Round 3 - 08/02/09 Stamford Bridge

Following the horrendous weather during the week, the third round meeting at Dalton had to be relocated to good old reliable Stamford Bridge. The drainage at the track is unbelievable, and despite the weather, the track was dry! There wasn't time between the second and third rounds to get the shocker sorted, so it was a case of ride as it was or not ride.

Mark from MukJunkie had called to say he would be attending to watch Danny, and also mentioned that Manchesterxtreme & British National rider Ashley Wilde had a free day, so we booked him in which made three MukJunkie sponsored riders at the meeting, Danny, Ashley Wilde and Ash Harland. This seemed to motivate Danny, and by the first race, was ready to go.

To keep things interesting, it was decided to run the track in reverse this time.

In the first race Danny got a bad start, and struggled with the conditions a bit coming in in 13th overall. Second race saw him improve slightly, but obviously the ineffective shock absorber dint make things any easier. An improvement was made with an 11th place finish.

During the afternoon, Danny spent quite a bit of time chatting with Ashley Wilde, and picked up a few tips and hints, including not forgetting to breathe whilst riding! This resulted in a piece of gaffer tape being put on his bar pad with `Breathe` on it!

This must of had quite an effect, as from the start Danny was flying, he even managed to get the `Hole Shot`, and doing so by some 3-4 bike lengths! However this was short lived as at the following corner Danny dropped it and lost quite a few places. After the race he explained the reason for dropping it by saying `When I got to the first corner and realised I was in the lead, I panicked!` A great result in the final race saw Danny finish 7th, and 10th overall on the day.

Once the final championship points were done it became clear that Danny had finished in 11th position, an excellent result, seeing as though he had only completed two of the three rounds. A very creditable end to his first Championship of his career.
